1% of the PAT Has Been Reinstated to the Delaware Visitor Bureaus...
Letter from Scott Thomas, Southern Delaware Tourism Executive Director
Dear SDT Board Members and Tourism Partners,
After the most trying month in SDT’s history, I am pleased to confirm that the 1% allocation of Delaware’s Public Accommodation Tax receipts has been reinstated to all three Delaware Convention & Visitors Bureaus after being cut in the May 30th session of the Joint Finance Committee. We collectively questioned this decision to divest from local tourism promotion to our state legislators and they have responded by reinstating the 1% funding to SDT, the Greater Wilmington CVB and Kent County Tourism in the State FY 2018 Budget Bill that passed the House and Senate in the early morning hours today. It now awaits Governor Carney’s signature.
I cannot express enough how much of an impact that all of your support in addition to the support of so many of our county tourism partner businesses and organizations has made to cause this action. SDT has survived the 2017 state budget crisis. I can personally attest that your phone calls and emails made this possible. Now we can focus back on our business and planning for Fiscal Year 2018. Our next board meeting is set for Tuesday July 11 from 9:30am to 11:30am. I am especially looking forward to seeing everyone at this one.
