Flags for Heroes by Nanticoke Rotary Club to Honor Our Heroes...
Memorial Day is a time for us to reflect on those who have protected us by their service in the military and the sacrifice that they made. In communities throughout the country, people show their appreciation in a variety of ways.
The members of the Nanticoke Rotary want to show appreciation by sponsoring ‘Flags for Heroes’ in both Seaford and Laurel, and are asking for you to join them in doing so.
On Memorial Day, American Flags will be displayed for each veteran named by one of our sponsors. The flags will be at IG Burton in Seaford and Johnny Janosik’s in Laurel and will remain there until mid-June. Each sponsor will receive a special medallion remembering the veteran they honored. There will also be a special Opening Ceremony at both locations to which you will be invited.
In addition to honoring those who have served us, you will be helping your communities through the work of Nanticoke Rotary. Nanticoke Rotary supports charities and special projects in our local area. Your involvement in Flags for Heroes helps with those efforts.
Please look at the attached brochure or go to our website at www.nanticokerotary.org to learn how you can participate in Flags for Heroes and honor our veterans at this special time.
THANK YOU SEAFORD!!!
On Saturday, April 8th, Sussex County Habitat for Humanity organized the second area Rock the Block in Seaford, Delaware. Inspired by similar Habitat events nationally, the Seaford Rock the Block was a neighborhood revitalization initiative where 70 local volunteers, AmeriCorps Delaware members, Habitat staff, and homeowners spruced up properties and repaired homes. By collaborating with engaged citizens, Sussex County Habitat expands on services typically offered to owner-occupied homes.
Community Volunteers gathered at Mount Olivet United Methodist Church for the traditional Habitat Blessing, and to meet with their groups for the day. Breakfast was served to volunteers thanks to Mt. Olivet volunteers.
The group consisted of volunteers from Mt. Olivet, the Greater Seaford Chamber of Commerce, City of Seaford, Seaford City Hall, Seaford City Council, and many local volunteers. Mayor David Genshaw spoke to the volunteers thanking everyone for helping to "Rock the Block" in his city, before heading to a site to volunteer himself. Additional support for the day was offered thanks to Nanticoke Senior Center, food for a celebration after the event was donated by Wawa Bridgeville, and music was performed by members of the 15 String Band.
Volunteers spent the day helping to revitalize Seaford area homes. During the event six area owner-occupied homes, and four non-profit buildings were worked on. Tasks included landscaping, painting, trash pick-up, gutter cleaning, power washing, and more.

American Pickers Coming to Delmarva...
The hosts of our show, Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz, are longtime "pickers" or as they call themselves "modern day archaeologists". They drive the back roads of America knocking on doors, digging through barns and basements, and sifting through junkyards and warehouses. The dirty, rusty treasures and antiques they pull out of these places are not just given a new life; they're saved for future generations to appreciate. Along the way the guys meet the amazing people and interesting places that make America great.
The Pickers will be coming to Delaware in May looking for people with barns, warehouses, properties, buildings full of odd, unique, and interesting collections. They love to explore the history of the locations tied to the items. But know Mike & Frank are always looking for great characters.
