UD Supports Home Modification Grants...
CDS offers home modifications to qualified individuals with paralysis-causing conditions
A ramp instead of stairs, a reachable light switch, a wider doorway – small changes to a home can make all the difference to people with paralysis-causing conditions.
Unfortunately, modifications, whether simple or fairly involved, can be too expensive for many. Costs could run to “many tens of thousands of dollars,” says Beth Mineo, director of the University of Delaware’s Center for Disabilities Studies (CDS).
To help cover those costs, the center’s Delaware Assistive Technology Initiative (DATI) created Nowhere Else to Turn, designed to enable qualifying Delawareans to achieve greater independence, freedom of movement and safety. Supported by a $75,000 grant from the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation, a leading nonprofit in researching and treating paralysis, Nowhere Left to Turn is now accepting applications for financial assistance in acquiring home modifications.
Those with interest can access the Nowhere Else to Turn home modification application form here and the application informational packet here. A list of qualifying paralysis-causing conditions is located here.
American Pickers Coming to Delmarva...
The hosts of our show, Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz, are longtime "pickers" or as they call themselves "modern day archaeologists". They drive the back roads of America knocking on doors, digging through barns and basements, and sifting through junkyards and warehouses. The dirty, rusty treasures and antiques they pull out of these places are not just given a new life; they're saved for future generations to appreciate. Along the way the guys meet the amazing people and interesting places that make America great.
The Pickers will be coming to Delaware in May looking for people with barns, warehouses, properties, buildings full of odd, unique, and interesting collections. They love to explore the history of the locations tied to the items. But know Mike & Frank are always looking for great characters.
Tidemark FCU Launches New Website...
Tidemark has launched a new website to integrate with its new name – Tidemark Federal Credit Union – and its logo, which also won a 2017 CUNA Sparkle award.
Tidemark Federal Credit Union CEO Pam Fleuette had a great working relationship with Zag Interactive, from the beginning of talking about Tidemark’s brand, history, to where we’re moving forward, including new branches in Selbyville, DE and Salisbury, MD in the next year. Our site exemplifies our customer outreach, community involvement and member first dedication. Take a look at it: www.tidemarkfcu.org, along with an enjoyable screen shot of our home page.
Tidemark Federal Credit Union will continue the tradition of helping neighbors build brighter futures with banking that keeps pace; bringing stability to our members' lives-and saving them money along the way; providing the strong, reliable banking they need and expect.
